Finally! My own Motorcycle!

Just a quicky this time:

I scoured Craigslist for weeks trying to find a bike that would meet my needs. I was prepared to buy a bike, then it'd get sold... then another... then another. Finally I found this gem!

She's a 1982 Yamaha XS400 Seca (XS400RJ). She might be 30 years old but only has 10K on her. She definitely needs some TLC, but I think it's a simple enough bike that I can learn quite a bit.

Anyway, I'll post more pics as I get things fixed up, but the photo above is what she looked like just before I rode her home.

  1. Is that your first motorcycle? Well, congratulations to that! I bet it’s exciting for you to own your very first bike. How is it now? To be honest, I’m kinda worried about its age. 30 years can certainly have an effect on some parts of the bike.

  2. Really? That Yamaha XS400 Seca is already 30 years old? Wow! It doesn’t look old to me. It only goes to show how much care you were able to give her. By the way, what’s her name?

  3. Yup! First motorcycle! I've worked on cars and such since I was in my teens, so I'm applying some of that knowledge to the bike. I'll admit that there were several things that needed some attention... Maybe I'll write a post about the issues I've found... I made several photos.

I haven't named her yet... I've been mulling over several ideas but nothing has really stepped forward as The One. I'm open to suggestions!

  4. Wow! There's nothing like riding a motorcycle; the thrill every time you feel the wind, it's really amazing. You need to work on restoring that baby and it'll work spot on. I hope you update us with the process! Good luck!
